Metropolitan Vladimir Celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the Sunday of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women at the Metropolitan Cathedral in Chișinău

7

On the day of the commemoration of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, the third Sunday after Pascha, His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir celebrated the Holy and Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of the Lord” in the capital.

The Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women were like the wise virgins with their lamps lit, who went out to meet Christ the Bridegroom, bringing myrrh to anoint the body of the Savior. They filled their alabaster vessels with precious nard through Christian virtues—through prayer and humility, through silence and modesty, through discretion and holiness—and thus were deemed worthy to be commemorated in the calendar of the Orthodox Church.

His Eminence spoke about the assurance given by the angel to the Myrrh-Bearing Women concerning the Resurrection of the Lord, when they came on the third day to the tomb to anoint His body with spices. Since our Church commemorates the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women today, this Sunday may also be regarded as a celebration of the Christian woman. Therefore, to you, dear ladies, who often fill our churches in greater numbers than men, we extend our heartfelt wishes: Many blessed years! May God bless you for your presence, your sacrifice, and the spiritual warmth with which you fill our churches.

May the All-Merciful God help us learn from the Myrrh-Bearing Women the courage to seek Christ in prayer, steadfast faith in His Resurrection, and the joy of encountering Him every Sunday and feast day in His Church, to the glory of the Most Holy Trinity and for our salvation. Amen!
