On the Seventh Sunday after the Resurrection of the Lord (the Sunday of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council), His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, celebrated the Holy and Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Nativity of the Lord in Chișinău.
Concelebrating with His Eminence were Archpriest Mitred Vadim Cheibaș, Secretary of the Metropolis of Moldova and Ecclesiarch of the Metropolitan Cathedral, together with a gathering of priests and deacons.
This seventh Sunday after Holy Pascha is dedicated to the confession of the true faith and the unity of the Church, calling us to preserve the Orthodox faith, especially today, in a world that is becoming increasingly troubled and spiritually misguided. It urges us to confess the Orthodox Creed as it was handed down to us by the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea in the year 325, as well as by the Fathers of the Second Ecumenical Council held in Constantinople in 381, when the second part of the Orthodox Creed was formulated. This Creed, which is recited during Holy Baptism and at every Divine Liturgy, represents the essence of our Orthodox faith in a concise form.
The Gospel passage appointed by the Church for reading during the Divine Liturgy was taken from the Holy Gospel according to Saint John, chapter 17, verses 1–13. In his homily, Archpriest Vadim Cheibaș explained to the faithful the teachings derived from today’s Gospel reading and also spoke about the commemoration of the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council.
