On the Second Sunday after the Resurrection of the Lord (the Sunday of the Holy Apostle Thomas), His Eminence Vladimir, Metropolitan of Chișinău and All Moldova, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of the Lord” in Chișinău.
During the Litany for the Departed within the Divine Liturgy, His Eminence commemorated those who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and eternal life.
Today’s divine service was adorned by the ordination of Subdeacon Alexandru Korshikov, a second-year student at the Theological Seminary of the Academy of Orthodox Theology of Moldova.
This Sunday is called the Sunday of the Holy Apostle Thomas because the second principal figure in the Gospel, after our Lord Jesus Christ, is the Holy Apostle Thomas. The Holy Gospel reveals to the faithful the importance of confessing the faith. Therefore, in order to assure Thomas of the reality of His Resurrection, just as He had done for the other disciples, after eight days the Savior Jesus Christ appeared again to His Apostles, passing through the locked doors and standing in their midst, saying: “Peace be with you.” Then He addressed Thomas in particular, saying: “Bring your finger here and see My hands; and bring your hand and put it into My side; do not be unbelieving, but believing” (John 20:27). Through the assurance given to the Holy Apostle Thomas, all the faithful are invited to be convinced of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
