“Confirming the universal resurrection before Thy Passion, Thou didst raise Lazarus from the dead, O Christ God. Therefore, like the children, we also bear the symbols of victory and cry out to Thee, the Conqueror of death: Hosanna in the highest! Blessed is He that cometh in the Name of the Lord.” (Troparion, Tone 1)
This emblematic feast of Christianity was celebrated with great fervor and spiritual longing by a multitude of faithful who participated in the festal service celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Vladimir, together with whom concelebrated Archpriest Mitred Vadim Cheibaș, Secretary of the Metropolis and Ecclesiarch of the Cathedral, as well as the clergy of the Metropolitan Cathedral “Nativity of the Lord” in Chișinău.
The Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, also known as Palm Sunday, is one of the Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church, celebrated on the Sunday preceding Pascha.
A few days before His Crucifixion, our Lord Jesus Christ was welcomed by the crowds who glorified and honored Him at His entry into Jerusalem, riding on a colt, as the Messiah and King of Israel. As a sign of joy, the people spread before Him palm and fig branches—symbols of victory—and even children cried out words of praise.
At the conclusion, His Eminence blessed the branches brought by the multitude of faithful who came to the House of the Lord to offer glory and thanksgiving to God for His abundant gifts. As the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem is a feast of joy, the Church has appointed on this day a dispensation for fish and wine.
