Biography:
Antonie (Şocotov), Archbishop of Chișinău and Hotin.
He was born in 1799 in Izium, Kharkov region, into the family of a schoolteacher.
He received his early education at the Theological College in Kharkov.
On August 28, 1823, he graduated from the Theological Academy in Kiev with a degree of Master and was appointed professor of mathematics and German at the Theological Seminary in Poltava.
On December 20, 1825, he was transferred to the Theological Academy in Kiev. On November 30, 1829, he was ordained a priest.
On April 8, 1831, he was appointed professor at the Theological Academy in Kiev.
Becoming widowed, on April 7, 1834, he was tonsured a monk; in August of the same year, he was appointed inspector at the Theological Academy in Kiev.
On June 14, 1836, he was elevated to archimandrite; on June 23, he was appointed rector of the Theological Seminary in Poltava.
From June 23, 1841 – rector of the Theological Seminary in Pskov and administrator of the monastery in Elizarov.
From January 24, 1845 – vicar at the Pskovo-Pechersk Monastery.
On April 2, 1850, he was consecrated Bishop of Volsk, vicar of the Diocese of Saratov.
From March 17, 1858 – Bishop of Chișinău.
In 1860 – summoned to Saint Petersburg to attend the Holy Synod.
He passed away on March 13, 1871, due to an apoplexy.
