Biography:

Bishop Isachie (Ioan Polojenschi) was born on January 23, 1828, into the family of a priest in the Diocese of Saint Petersburg.

In 1849, he graduated from the Theological Seminary in Saint Petersburg and was admitted to the Theological Academy in Saint Petersburg. While a student, on September 14, 1851, he was tonsured a monk.

He graduated from the Academy in 1853 with the degree of Master in Theology and in the same year was appointed supervisor of the Theological School in Borovichi.

In 1856 – supervisor of the school in Belozersk.

In 1857 – professor at the Seminary in Novgorod.

On March 14, 1858, he received the rank of archimandrite and was appointed inspector of the Theological Seminary in Stavropol.

From May 1, 1863 – rector of the Theological Seminary in the Caucasus.

On May 9, 1871, he was consecrated Bishop of Mozdok, vicar of the Diocese of the Caucasus.

On May 30, 1881 – Bishop of Yenisei and Krasnoyarsk.

On March 8, 1886 – Bishop of Tomsk and Semipalatinsk.

On January 12, 1891 – Bishop of Chișinău and Hotin.

On November 21, 1892, he was appointed Bishop of Astrakhan and Yenotaevsk, but due to serious illness, he did not take office and on December 19 was retired.

In 1893 – at Tikhvin Monastery (Novgorod), where he passed away on May 11, 1894.
