Biography

Benedict (Vladimir Gheorghievici Poleakov) was born on July 15, 1884, in Chișinău.

In 1905, he graduated from the Chișinău Theological Seminary, after which he was ordained a priest.
In 1914, he graduated from the Kyiv Theological Academy, earning the degree of Candidate of Theology.

Upon completing his studies at the Academy, he was appointed inspector and professor of theology and of the Russian language and literature at the Diocesan School in the city of Belgorod, where he served until 1917.

In the following years, he most likely served as a priest, as there is evidence that in 1940 he was parish priest of the cemetery church in Chișinău.

On February 15, 1947, he was tonsured a monk, and on February 17 he was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite at the Holy Trinity–St. Sergius Lavra.
On February 18, 1947, he was consecrated in Moscow as Bishop of Chișinău and Moldova.

From July 3, 1948, he served as Bishop of Ivanovo and Chișinău.
On February 25, 1953, he was elevated to the rank of Archbishop.
From February 23, 1956, he served as Archbishop of Zhytomyr and Ovruch.

On September 8, 1958, he retired.
