Biography:
Pavel (Lebedev) (1827–1892), Archbishop of Kazan and Sviyazhsk, was born on December 12, 1827, in the Tver region.
In 1843, after graduating from the seminary in Tver, he was admitted to the Theological Academy in Saint Petersburg.
In 1853, he graduated from the Academy; on June 28, he was tonsured a monk; on July 5, ordained deacon; and on September 26, ordained hieromonk.
On April 29, 1855, he received the degree of Master in Theology.
On November 6, 1857, he was appointed inspector at the Seminary in Saint Petersburg.
On September 14, 1858, he received the rank of archimandrite.
On October 15, 1859 – inspector of the Academy in Saint Petersburg.
From December 20, 1866 – rector of the Seminary in Saint Petersburg.
On September 8, 1868 – consecrated Bishop of Vyborg, vicar of the Diocese of Saint Petersburg. From August 29, 1869 – Bishop of Ladoga.
On June 23, 1871 – diocesan Bishop of Bessarabia.
On April 1, 1879, elevated to the rank of Archbishop.
From September 29, 1887 – appointed Archbishop of Kazan and Sviyazhsk.
He passed away on April 23, 1892, while reciting the Prayer of the Mother of God.
He was buried in the city of Kazan.
